Alleged drunk driver crashes into high school football field in Guelph

A young Guelph man is facing charges after he allegedly drove drunk and wound up crashing into a high school football field in the Royal City.

Guelph police said this happened soon before midnight, Wednesday night, at John F. Ross CVI, on Stevenson Street North.

They said the 23-year-old driver failed to make a bend in the road, and his vehicle went off the roadway, through two chain link fences, and crashed into the football field at the school.

Police said the driver and the one passenger were not hurt.

Officers allegedly found a bottle of vodka in the driver’s jacket pocket.

And police said testing back at the police station showed he had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

The charges are impaired driving, and careless driving.
