Guelph man charged for wielding a machete in Monday assault

A Guelph man now faces multiple charges after wielding a machete in a dispute outside a social service location Monday morning.

Police were called around 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 10, after reports alerted authorities of a man who had exited his vehicle with a machete in his hand. The suspect approached a man with the machete in his hand, before a nearby bystander intervened and the suspect left the scene.

Investigators say the interaction was the continuation of a prior altercation that had taken place in downtown Guelph. They say the two men were not known to each other prior to the interactions.

The 39-year-old man from Guelph now faces multiple charges, and will appear in court on November 3. He will face charges for assault with a weapon, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
