Homeowner confronts suspect during break-in through back window

Waterloo regional police are searching for a suspect following a home break-in this past weekend.
Sunday night around 9:50 p.m., police say a person forced their way into a home on the north-end of New Hamburg, on Waterloo Street and Hostetler Road.
The homeowner was there, and ran into the suspect.
“Investigators learned that an unknown individual forced entry into the residence through a rear window while the homeowner was inside,” said police.
“The homeowner encountered the intruder, who then fled on foot.”
Police officers, as well as the canine team, were able to find some of the items taken from the home nearby, but the suspect was not found.
There is no suspect description at this time.
The investigation is ongoing.
