Guelph Humane Society’s ‘Cutest Pet’ photo contest returns

The Guelph Humane Society (GHS) has announced the return of its “Cutest Pet Photo Contest,” where the organization invites the public to show that their pet is the cutest in the entire region.

This year will be the fourth annual iteration of the fan-favourite contest, which does not exclude any specifics of pet in contest consideration. The GHS’ release urges any pet from “dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, guinea pigs and other companion animals” to enter the contest.

It will run until Aug. 31, at 5:00 p.m. Local owners can enter their pets at GHS’ online portal dedicated to the competition, including details about their animal friend and a photo of the pet in question. A $20 entry fee donation to GHS is required, and comes with 20 contested votes. Entrants can enter up to two pets under each submission.

Subsequent votes for the contest can be purchased for $1 each, with a minimum $5 donation. GHS says donations of $20 or more will be eligible for a charitable tax receipt.

The event is a fundraiser for the Guelph Humane Society, with organizers hoping to raise $10,000 in 2026’s edition. They say funds raised will help GHS “deliver critical care and support for vulnerable animals in Guelph and Wellington County.”

“The Cutest Pet Photo Contest turns the joy we share with our own pets into meaningful support for animals who need us,” Lisa Veit, executive director of GHS said. “Every entry and every vote helps provide medical treatment, safe shelter and compassionate care to vulnerable animals in our community.”

The winning pet of the 2026 contest will have a large print of them displayed in the Guelph Humane Society’s lobby throughout 2027. They will also be featured as the August Pet of the Month in the 2027 Guelph Humane Society’ Happy Tails Calendar.

Additional photo prize packs of each as well as gift baskets will be awarded to the top 2 runner-up finishers. They will also be awarded to the top-finishing dog, cat and “other animal.”
