Cambridge cyclist dead in Brant County hit-and-run

Brant County OPP continue to investigate a weekend hit-and-run collision that left a Cambridge cyclist dead.

On Sunday emergency services, including Brant County OPP, Brant-Brantford Paramedic Services and The Brant County Fire Department responded to East River Road in Glen Morris around 8:30 a.m.

Constable Andrew Gamble with Norfolk County OPP said in a video posted to X on Sunday afternoon that a passing motorist on East River Road had reported an unresponsive cyclist in a ditch.

“That cyclist sustain life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead at the scene,” said Gamble. “The vehicle involved in this collision did not remain at the scene.”

Gamble confirmed to 570 NewsRadio they found debris located around the scene including a headlight and a mirror.

East River Road between Glen Morris Road West and Highway 24 was closed for several hours for the investigation but has since reopened.

Through the investigation, officers found a vehicle they believed to be involved in the incident, identified the driver and placed them under arrest.

Brant County OPP said 65-year-old Lloyd Williamson of Brant County now faces a charge of “fail to stop at accident resulting in death.”

He is expected to appear in court next month on Feb. 27.

The investigation remains ongoing.

The West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management Enforcement (TIME) Team is helping with the investigation. Anyone with information on the incident, dashcam footage or may have been travelling on East River Road around that time is asked to come forward.
