Mall evacuated, teen arrested following bear spray incident in Kitchener

Fairview Park Mall was evacuated and closed early on Friday night after reports of the use of bear spray.

Police say they responded to the mall in Kitchener around 7:45 p.m.

A 16-year-old was arrested in connection to the incident and is now facing multiple charges.

Those charges include Administering a Noxious Substance, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, and Assault with a Weapon.

Police say they believe the incident was targeted and all parties involved are known to each other.

No life-threatening injuries were reported and the mall reopened on Saturday without issue.
