WRPS investigate attempted distraction theft in Cambridge

Waterloo Regional Police are looking for a pair of suspects after a suspected distraction theft in Cambridge.

On Jan. 10, officers responded to the area of Franklin Boulevard and Elgin Street around 12 p.m. after an elderly woman was approached by two people, a man and a woman, in a dark SUV.

Police say the woman got out of the car, spoke with the victim and tried to put a necklace around her neck. She backed away and members of the public intervened as well before the vehicle took off.

There were no physical injuries from the incident. Officers are looking to speak with anyone in the area at the time, including those who stepped in.

The investigation remains ongoing.
