If your travel plans take you through the area of the Roseville Road bridge in North Dumfries this week, you’ll want to be aware of some closures on the way for Highway 401 traffic.
As construction crews continue to work away on an ongoing reconstruction project, the Ministry of Transportation warns of overnight closures on Highway 401 around the bridge on both Wednesday and Thursday this week.
Beginning at 7 p.m. on Wednesday night, eastbound lanes of Highway 401 will be closed from Cedar Creek Road in Ayr, through to Homer Watson Boulevard / Fountain Street South. That closure is expected to be lifted by 6 a.m. on Thursday morning.
Westbound traffic will not be spared from the traffic impacts, though, with a closure of westbound lanes of traffic rolling out on Thursday night at 7 p.m.
That closure will span from Homer Watson Boulevard / Fountain Street South, right over to Cedar Creek Road – with an expected reopening time set for Friday morning at 6 a.m.
The MTO said any traffic approaching those Highway 401 closures will be directed off the highway onto local roadways. Signed detours are in effect for both closures.
Those closures are said to be in place to allow for Roseville Road bridge falsework: setting up the temporary supports and structures that are required for work to continue through that stretch.
It was back in September of 2024 when the Roseville Road bridge was demolished – all part of an ongoing, multi-billion dollar investment from the province to rehabilitate and expand highways and roadways across Ontario.
Roseville Road remains closed in North Dumfries, between Whistle Bare Road and Kings Road, for the extent of that work.
Latest estimated costs for the replacement of the Roseville Road bridge are pegged at just over $17-million dollars, expected to be completed in November. 570 NewsRadio has reached out to the Ministry of Transportation for an update on the project’s progress.
