Region looking for input on enhanced safety measures at 3 roundabouts

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

The Region of Waterloo is seeking input on enhanced safety measures at three roundabouts.

Over the fall and winter, regional staff installed raised crosswalks at Homer Watson Blvd. and Block Line Rd. in Kitchener, button-activated flashing lights at Franklin Boulevard and Bishop Street North in Cambridge, and both features at Erb Street West and Ira Needles Boulevard in Waterloo.

The goal was to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists who are crossing the road at the roundabouts, which includes improved lighting and new alert signs for drivers.

Now that construction is complete, the Region of Waterloo has launched an EngageWR survey to gather feedback.

The data will help guide recommendations for future improvements at roundabouts and crosswalks.

A report on the safety pilot project will be presented to council next year.
