Guelph driver three times over limit facing impaired driving charges

On Thursday, around 11:30 a.m., Guelph Police pulled over a 27-year-old driver near Stone Road West and Edinburgh Road South.  

in a news release, Police say they responded to reports of an SUV that was swaying into the oncoming lanes and had almost hit the curb multiple times.

The SUV was located and pulled over, where officials say the driver had an odour of alcohol in his breath and was showing signs of impairment.  

The driver, a man from Guelph, was arrested and transported to the police station, where tests would show that he was over three times the legal amount of alcohol in his system.  

The driver is being charged with impaired driving; his license was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.  

Later, that Thursday, an officer in the Paisley Road and Imperial Road South area pulled over a different vehicle at 11:40 p.m., after seeing it cross into the oncoming lanes twice.  

Officials say the 43-year-old man from Guelph was showing signs of impairment and failed a roadside breath test.

The driver was arrested and taken to the police station, where tests would show that he was over the legal limit.  

The man is being charged with impaired driving; his license was suspended for 90 days, and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to be responsible if they choose to consume alcohol and cannabis. Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home. Anyone who spots a suspected impaired driver is asked to immediately call 911.
