60 new affordable homes will soon be built on Ottawa Street in Kitchener through collaboration between local government, the federal government, and Habitat for Humanity.
The City of Kitchener shared news of the Holborn Court project, located across from the Stanley Park Place at Ottawa Street and River Road, on Thursday.
The city donated the $5.5 million parcel of land so that this project could be brought to life through collaboration with Habitat for Humanity, with funding from the federal government’s Housing Accelerator Fund.

“We know that tackling this housing challenge has not been something any one order of government or organization can do on their own,” said Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic. “When you see collaboration happen, that’s when the magic happens.”
The units will only be available for purchase to income-qualified households, meaning they’re earmarked for working families looking to get into the housing market.
Habitat for Humanity will also ensure that, even if ownership changes hands, these units will remain affordable.
Shovels are expected to go into the ground later this year.
