The buses will keep running on Monday, after Grand River Transit employees ratified a deal with the Region of Waterloo.
The union representing those workers, Unifor Local 4304, said the agreement included “significant wage and benefit gains.”
A statement from the union goes on to say they agreement also included expanded coverage for workers between the ages of 67 and 75 years old, and looked to protect new routes.
“Grand River Transit workers stood united through this round of bargaining and secured an agreement that reflects the value of the essential work they do every day,” said Unifor National President Lana Payne.
“These are the workers who keep communities across Kitchener, Waterloo, and Cambridge moving, and this contract is a direct result of their solidarity and resolve.”
The three-year deal will be finalized by regional council at a special council meeting this week.
“The region is committed to providing a modern, competitive workplace across the organization, and we value the work of all employees who provide critical services to over 650,000 residents on a daily basis,” read a statement from the Region of Waterloo.
This new agreement for the 820 Grand River Transit workers expires April 30, 2029.
