Stanley Park gets geological with weekend’s Rock and Gem Expo

From sifting gems to cracking geodes, Stanley Park Community Centre will be home to a number of vendors and activities for all ages during the weekend’s Kitchener Rock and Gem Expo.
From 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday and 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, the Rock and Gem Expo will take place inside the Stanley Park Community Centre, with all ages welcome. The ticketed event will cost attendees $5 per person over the age of 14, and $10 entry for an entire family or group.
Event vendors
Organizers say the event will feature a “carefully curated mix of vendors” which means “not two tables look alike, and no two visits feel the same.” Advertised vendors at the event include those selling individual crystals and gemstones, which come either tumble or carefully polished.
Serious collectors of larger pieces will be able to find “large amethyst clusters” and large pieces of raw minerals, which, according to the expo’s site, “belong in any serious collection — or any living room.”
A variety of jewellery vendors will sell handmade necklaces, bracelets, charms and more bearing a variety of different stones of various origins.
The event also advertises other “rare, curious finds” which will be available for purchase, including preserved specimens, framed insects, animal skills, and other “natural curiosities”.

Event activities
The event will also feature numerous activities for audiences young and old to get hands on with some geological fascinations. The Rock and Gem Expo will house a “geode cracking station”, where attendees can crack open a purchased geode and keep whatever mystery gem they find inside.
A favourite amongst expo attendees, there will also be a number of gem sifting stations at the event. These stations allow visitors to purchase a collection of sand containing small particles and full chunks of gemstones, which allows for a hands-on chance to search for one’s own gemstone like a real-world geologist.
The Kitchener Rock and Gem Expo’s second annual show will once again take place at the Stanley Park Community Centre. The Stanley Park Centre is located at 505 Franklin Street North, Kitchener, ON.
