Kitchener Rangers selected as finalists to host the 2027 Memorial Cup

The Kitchener Rangers have been selected as finalists to host the 2027 Memorial Cup, and are set to go toe-to-toe with their bitter rivals for the opportunity to host the historic tournament.

The Rangers and Guelph Storm were shortlisted as the finalists to host the tournament, and the two organizations will now prepare formal bids to the panel of experts who will make the final selection over the next two months.

Kitchener expressed interest in hosting the Memorial Cup back in August, and last hosted the tournament in 2008.

“We could not be more thrilled to be announced as a finalist to host the 2027 Memorial Cup – we believe that Kitchener is the perfect host city,” said Joe Birch, chief operating officer of the Kitchener Rangers, in a press release.

“Our city has a rich hockey history, outstanding facilities, and a dedicated fan base that would make the 2027 Memorial Cup an unforgettable experience for all participants and visitors. We look forward to completing the next steps in the selection process.”

The Kitchener Memorial Auditorium is currently undergoing significant investment and renovations, which will bring a new restaurant and upgraded amenities to the iconic stadium.

The Rangers are two-time Memorial Cup Champions and have made it to the tournament on six different occasions.

The Guelph Storm have yet to win a Memorial Cup; however, the Royal City did host the tournament back in 2002.

The stage for the 2026 Memorial Cup is already set, and the Kelowna Rockets will play host for the first time since 2004 this coming May.

According to the CHL, a decision is set to be made by early December.

On the ice, the Kitchener Rangers are set to kick off the new season on Sept. 19 with a game at The Aud against the Brantford Bulldogs.
