Downtown Guelph construction on track, intersection set to reopen

On Aug. 16, the Macdonell and Wyndham Street intersection is set to reopen. The City of Guelph says that the reopening of this area marks the second major milestone of the ongoing project.
The construction comes as a part of Guelph’s Downtown Infrastructure Renewal Program. This part of the project was expected to take a month to complete, first being closed off on July. 19. Crews in charge of the program worked both mid-day and overnight in order to keep pace.
The city says the reopening in the downtown area should create a more convenient route for transportation, while reducing disruptions.
Kyle Gibson, the General Manager for Transportation and Engineering Services believes the route should benefit transportation throughout that area in Downtown Guelph saying:
“Reopening this route now will improve mobility, reduce disruptions, and help create a smoother experience for residents, students, businesses, visitors, and all transit users travelling in and out of our Downtown core, helping to support local businesses as activity picks up this fall.”
In their news release, the City of Guelph says the construction will continue up Wyndham Street from the Quebec/Douglas Street intersection to Woolwich Street. Douglas Street will temporarily carry two-way traffic to help the flow of traffic. Guelph adds that with this new construction, on-street parking will be unavailable while work is ongoing.
