Federal NDP nominates Waterloo candidate for this fall

By Mark Pare

The competitors for this fall's federal election are coming into focus in Waterloo.

Now that Lori Campbell has been nominated to run for the federal New Democrats in the riding, each of the candidates for the major parties are known.

Campbell, the Director of the Waterloo Indigenous Student Centre and an Indigenous Studies instructor at St. Paul's University College at the University of Waterloo, was selected in a contested meeting over Sandee Lovas Wednesday night.

“I'm excited to hit the ground running as the NDP candidate for Waterloo,” she says in a release, “People in Waterloo are engaged and want stronger action on issues like affordability, climate change, and pharmacare.  I'm ready to lead that change locally and I am looking forward to serving as their Member of Parliament in Ottawa.”

She will try to unseat Liberal MP Bardish Chagger, who is seeking re-election.

Jerry Zhang will challenge for the spot as a Conservative, and Kirsten Wright is running for the Green Party.
