One of Kitchener’s own will be representing the country at the world juniors.
Rangers forward Carson Rehkopf has been named to Team Canada for the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship. The 18-year-old currently leads the entire Canadian Hockey League (CHL) in scoring.
Rehkopf will join Toronto Maple Leafs prospects Easton Cowan and Fraser Minten on the team. The latter played four games with the NHL team earlier this season.
Returning to Team Canada is Peterborough Petes forward Owen Beck, who won gold with the red and white in Halifax and Moncton last year.
The other marquee player on the roster is 17-year-old Macklin Celebrini, who is the projected first overall pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.
Guelph Storm’s Scott Walker also joins the Team Canada coaching staff.
Rehkopf and Team Canada will look to secure a third straight world junior gold medal when the tournamant begins on December 26.
Canada is scheduled to play day one against Finland in the morning.
The gold medal will be awarded on January 5.
