Plans for 57-storey tower approved at Kitchener committee

Plans to build a pair of large towers in Kitchener passed approvals at a committee meeting this week.

The towers, proposed by Woodhouse Investments Inc. and Vive Development, would add more than 1,200 units of housing to the city, with plenty of work to be done before shovels are in the ground.

If built, they would be amongst the tallest structures in Kitchener, standing at 51 and 57 storeys respectively.

Plans were presented to Kitchener before councillors at a Planning Committee meeting on Monday.

The project would be located at 50 Borden Avenue, an industrial area of the city between the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium and the Rockway golf course.

The project would include nearly 600 parking spaces, commercial space near the building’s base, and a mix on one and two-bedroom apartments amongst the more-than 1,200 units.

With the water capacity issues in the Mannheim Service Area, this project is approved with a holding provision in place.
