Clean up continues after Woodstock tornado

Reports continue to come in of tree and property damage in Woodstock, following an EF0 tornado on Saturday.

The Northern Tornadoes Project confirmed the twister touched down during the afternoon storm that had tornado alerts reaching devices in Waterloo Region.

“The wind speed range for an EF0 is 90 km/hr to 130 km/hr,” said Dr. Dave Sills with the Western University based group.

“Even a weak tornado like an EFO can put a two-by-four through a wall.”

Municipal officials in Woodstock said the city’s clean up efforts are nearly wrapped up.

“City crews responded to several downed trees and localized street flooding following Saturday’s storm,” reads a notice from the city. “Staff worked throughout the weekend to clear debris from city roads, sidewalks, and hydrants, and that cleanup is now largely complete.”

This week, crews are focusing on downed trees in parks and will be inspecting playgrounds and city-owned areas for flooding damage.

“The fence at the cricket pitch was damaged and will be fixed. Stumps from removed trees will be addressed, though they may remain in place for a short time.”

City staff expect more reports of private property damage to come in this week. They’ve already been contacted about damage to vehicles and homes hit by downed trees and branches.

Anyone with concerns is asked to reach out to the city through email info@cityofwoodstock.ca or call 519-539-2382.
