More details have been released on an EFO tornado that touched down in Woodstock last Saturday.
The Northern Tornadoes Project (NTP) has released its full report on the twister, which had phones lighting up with alerts and warnings here in Waterloo Region.
The organization found the tornado developed just outside of Woodstock around 3:20 p.m. before travelling 3 km into the city’s west end.
Maximum wind speed was recorded at 90 km/hr, with a path as wide as 50 m.
The NTP verified a video of the tornado posted on social media.
Despite numerous reports of tree damage, investigators said the broken branches in one area of the city were most likely not due to the tornado itself.
“Sporadic damage to trees on the northeast side of Woodstock (many compromised by conditions such as rot or root girdling) was due to straight-line winds and was not related to the tornado,” reads the report.
No injuries were reported.
