Man reportedly exited vehicle while drinking, now facing charges

Guelph Police have charged a man with impaired driving after a witness reported seeing the driver leave his vehicle with an alcoholic drink in hand.

Officials spoke to the 34-year-old man from Guelph at 6:45 p.m. Thursday evening in a parking lot by the Victoria Road North and Eramosa Road area.

Police say they saw signs of impairment, including slurred speech and an odour of alcohol.

The driver was arrested and moved to the police station, where officers say they tested and found that he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.

The man is now being charged with impaired driving; his license was suspended for 90 days and his car was impounded for seven days.

The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to be responsible if they choose to consume alcohol and cannabis. Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home. Anyone who spots a suspected impaired driver is asked to immediately call 911.
