New multi-use path coming to busy school zone on Victoria Street

The Region of Waterloo is kicking off some upgrades to a sidewalk in front of a busy school zone in Kitchener ahead of the students returning to class this fall.

Crews will be replacing the sidewalk at Victoria Street South with a wider, asphalt, multi-use path instead on the north side of the road around St. Dominic Savio Catholic School and Sandhills Public School.

They’ll also be adding a new pedestrian refuge island on Victoria Street South, that connects Hidden Creek Drive to the gravel trail near the Greengable Park baseball diamond.

The work began on Monday, and will make it so that you won’t be able to use the sidewalk in that area for most of the summer.

The good news is, by the fall, that new multi-use path for walkers, bikers, and students alike will be complete.
