More lane closures coming to Fischer-Hallman for new roundabout

Construction crews along Fischer-Hallman are nothing new, but more significant closures are on the way.
Starting at the end of the month, crews will be looking to install a new roundabout at the intersection of New Dundee Road and Fischer-Hallman.
Traffic will be heavily impacted in the south end of Kitchener as a result.
Construction began on July 2 with no road closures. However, starting next week, Stages 2 and 3 will lead to full lane closures for alternating lanes of traffic.
Stage 2 will see Fischer-Hallman closed heading northbound between New Dundee and Plains Road; stage 3 will close off access for southbound traffic.
Motorists are being asked to detour using Huron, Trussler and Cedar Creek roads.
“During construction, traffic may occasionally be required to travel on a gravel surface and may be controlled by traffic control staff,” reads a notice from the region.
“Local access and traffic movements will be maintained where possible throughout construction.”
The closures are set to extend into September, with construction fully wrapped up by November. It’s all part of a nearly $3 million project.
Crews are on-site as numerous projects on both New Dundee and Fischer-Hallman continue.
This includes road improvements on New Dundee from Pinnacle to Reichert drives, with final paving and painting still to be completed this month.
On Fischer-Hallman, road reconstruction is set to continue between Plains and Bleams roads until October. That $10.6 million project includes widening Fischer-Hallman to four lanes with multi-use paths on each side of the road for pedestrians and cyclists.
