Fatal crash on Northfield Drive East under investigation

A fatality is being reported following a crash on Northfield Drive East, north of Conestogo.

It was just after 6:30 a.m. on Friday when Waterloo regional police shared news of a “serious motor vehicle accident” on social media.

Police later confirmed that the collision involved two vehicles and one of the drivers, a 77-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash was reported just before 6 a.m. at the Northfield Drive East and Country Lane intersection, around West Montrose.

The other involved driver, a 44-year-old man, was taken to an out-of-region hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The collision investigation led to a lengthy closure on Northfield Drive East between Scotch Line Road and Jigs Hollow Road, which continued into the afternoon hours. It reopened by 2 p.m.

Police said their investigation into the collision is ongoing and any witnesses, including those with dash cam video, are asked to call 519-570-9777.
