Police release video of e-scooter on expressway

It’s no place for an e-scooter.

Waterloo regional police have released dashcam footage of a person on an e-scooter zipping along the lanes of Highway 7, approaching the split between Highway 7/8 westbound and the Highway 8 eastbound flyover.

The video shows the individual getting onto the highway from Ottawa Street North in Kitchener and moving across at least two lanes of live traffic.

Police posted the video as a reminder that e-scooters are not allowed on highways, and not allowed to go over 24 km/h, according to provincial laws.

“At high speeds, riders have little time to react to vehicles, children, animals, or other unexpected hazards,” said police.

“One wrong move could have devastating consequences. E-scooters are not toys.”

Police do not make mention of any charges in this specific case.
