Cambridge mayoral candidate steps down, five candidates remain

There are now five options for Cambridge Mayor in the upcoming municipal election as of Friday morning.
The clock is ticking down for new candidates to put their names forward, with the last day to file nomination papers seven days away on August 21.
Thursday, Brian Kennedy announced he would no longer be pushing for the role following a sudden and unexpected loss.
“This decision was not made lightly or with haste,” said Kennedy.
“I’ve had time to sit and reflect while visiting Newfoundland these past few weeks, supporting my family.”
For the last decade, Kennedy has worked as the Executive Director for the City’s Business Improvement Area Associations.
He has lived in Cambridge for nearly 16 years.
“For now, my focus is on supporting my family during this difficult time. I kindly ask for privacy and space, and I will reach out privately to those closest to me when I am able to.”
The five remaining candidates include Ryan Bolender, Scott Hamilton, Ihtsham Haq, Shahzada Jalal Khan, and current Mayor Jan Liggett.
Election day is Monday, October 26.
