Kitchener Rangers clinch berth in finals after victory over Saguenéens

One win stands between your Kitchener Rangers and junior hockey’s biggest prize.
The Rangers stood firm against the surging Chicoutimi Saguenéens on Tuesday night to close out their round robin with a 3-2 win.
With the win, the Rangers have advanced to the final game on Sunday, with their opponent still to be determined.
Rangers forward Christian Humphreys left Tuesday’s game after having his foot stomped on by Chicoutimi’s Jordan Tourigny, who was eventually ejected from the game with a match penalty for kicking.
“That’s a cowardice play. Stomping with the skate. That’s not hockey,” said Rangers Head Coach Jussi Ahokas in the post-game press conference. “That’s the cheapest thing you can do in hockey.”
Humphreys’ status remains unknown ahead of the final game on Sunday.
The Blueshirts will have to wait to find out who their opponent will be in the final game. The Kelowna Rockets and Everett Silvertips close out the round robin on Wednesday night, but at this point, any one of those three teams could end up in the final game.
