‘A highly friendly environment’: Popular cafe returns to downtown Kitchener

A popular place to meet and enjoy an affordable, home-style meal has returned to downtown Kitchener.

Like many restaurants in Waterloo Region and beyond, Queen Street Commons Cafe faced adversity during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Over the past few years, The Working Centre has been working on renovations to the building in order to reopen the popular, volunteer-led cafe.

“What it represents is a place that has very affordable food, is a big gathering area, lots of seats, volunteers behind the serving area, it’s just a very highly friendly environment,” said Joe Mancini, director of The Working Centre.

The cafe first opened in 2006 as an inclusive space where residents from every corner and background of Waterloo Region could meet and enjoy food, company, and live music.

Queen Street Commons Cafe is open Monday through Saturday.
