Old Kinsmen site demolition in Cambridge clears way for new ambulance station

An old Kinsmen site in Cambridge is being torn down, and a new ambulance station will be taking its place.
Heavy machinery has been working for the past week or so to bring down the structure at 651 Concession Rd., south of Eagle Street, to make way for a new $12.6 million paramedic station.
The plan was given final approval at Region of Waterloo council in August 2024.
At the time, Chief of Paramedic Services John Riches said the portion of the community around the site deals with long response times, and this station would be a game-changer.
In the original plan to tear down the old childcare centre building, the replacement structure would have included the ambulance station plus a few storeys of affordable housing.
After some disagreement between councillors, Council voted to go with a more cost-efficient design of only having the ambulance facility.
The new facility will be a one-storey station with crew space, paramedicine offices, vehicle bays, and a training room for up to 45 participants.
