The Kitchener Rangers are still playoff perfect.
An 8-5 win against the Sault St. Marie Greyhounds Sunday puts the Rangers up 2-0 in their best-of-seven second-round playoff series. It was a back-and-forth night with two of the Rangers’ goals being empty netters by Sam O’Reilly, giving him a hat-trick on the night.
The Blueshirts had just two power plays to the Greyhounds’ six, which included a pair of 5-on-3s.
“Our boys showed determination, and we came back,” said Head Coach Jussi Ahokas. “It’s a tight series, you have to have a short memory, and Tuesday we go again.”
Games three and four are on the road, on Tuesday and Thursday nights. If needed, Game 5 is back at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium on Friday night.
Meantime, Sunday’s action certainly had fans on their feet for the win, but while standing for the national anthem, a different kind of emotion was in the air.
Confusion, perhaps a wince or two.
A performance by electric guitarist Brayden deBelleval didn’t exactly go as planned, with the tune cutting in and out throughout.
An Electric Canadian Anthem
Brayden called into the postgame show on 570 NewsRadio with Mike Farwell and Josh Piercey to apologize for the performance, as he said he wasn’t sure what happened.
“The interference with the audio was just so bad, like every note I played was just cut out. I don’t know what happened,” said Brayden.
“I just wanted to come on here and like apologize for that, because that is really kind of like embarrassing but kinda cool at the same time to see how the crowd can kinda join in on that, you know what I mean?”
All of the Kitchener Rangers playoff action, electric or not, can be heard live on 570 NewsRadio.
