11:00 – Big Music Fest – funding
Getting things ready for Rod Stewart and Blondie to come to Kitchener in July will cost Kitchener and regional taxpayers at least $240,000. Most of that money, will be spent on lawn upgrades at McLennan Park. Another $40,000 will need to be spent on Grand River Transit and waste management. It’s estimated last year’s Big Music Fest had a local economic impact of $3.5-million.
11:30 – Elmira Maple Syrup Festival

The Elmira Maple Syrup Festival celebrates 51 years tomorrow – complete with the help of 2-thousand volunteers. There are two new additions to this year’s event; one being a pancake run, as well as a Governor General award display. Traditional attractions, like the sugar bush tour will still be happening. There will be an opening ceremony today at 12 at the bandstand in Gore Park on Arthur Street in Elmira. Drew McGovern is the chairperson – and has been with the festival for the past 18 years.
11:45 – Earth Hour

Sit in the dark – for a good – and global – cause. Earth Hour started in 2007 as a lights-off event to raise awareness about climate change. More than 162 countries and territories worldwide now participate. Earth Hour is tomorrow, from 8:30 – 9:30 PM. Cambridge and North Dumfries Hydro Inc. are collectively challenging their customers to power down and turn off lights…the Manager of Communications joins us now.
