Heavy rain, thunderstorms to wrap up August in Waterloo Region

August is going out with a literal ‘bang.’ Environment Canada officials called for thunderstorms and heavy rain throughout the day Monday.
A special weather statement was issued for Waterloo Region and surrounding areas as of 9:00 a.m.
The weather authority said 30-50 mm of rain was possible, with the potential for some areas to see even more than that.
“Local rainfall amounts may exceed 50 mm, especially for areas that receive thunderstorms,” read the alert. “Rainfall warnings may be required.”
The heavy rainfall came with a risk of pooling on local roadways and in low-lying areas.
The weather statement was lifted mid-Monday afternoon.
