Attempted ATM theft causes significant damage at Kitchener Scotiabank

Waterloo regional police are searching for multiple suspects after an attempted ATM theft at a bank in Kitchener.

Sunday morning around 3:00 a.m., police were called to the Scotiabank in the Fischer-Hallman Road and Huron Road area of the city.

Police said a stolen front-end loader was used to smash into the wall of the building. Officers arrived before the ATM could be successfully removed.

“The suspects fled in a newer-model white pickup truck and collided with a responding police cruiser while leaving the area,” said police.

“Through the investigation, officers determined the front-end loader used in the incident had recently been stolen. Investigators also located a second stolen vehicle in the parking lot of the financial institution.”

Police are calling the incident targeted, and the investigation is ongoing.
