Local Kettle Drive donations down

The local Salvation Army says donations for its kettle drive are down by as much as 12 thousand dollars in parts of the region. That’s the situation in Cambridge this holiday season. Public relations director Ken Percy tells 570 News they set their goal higher this year because of the downturn in the economy. The need has skyrocketed in some places up to 50 percent. In Cambridge, 571 children were helped last year. This year, they’re at over 12 hundred kids. The Kitchener-Waterloo drive is about 15 thousand dollars shy of this year’s goal. The deadline is tomorrow. Donations can be made by calling the Salvation Army, texting hope to 4-5-6-7-8, through the kettle drives at local malls and grocery stores or online.
