Shortly before 11 p.m., police were dispatched to an incident involving a moped in the Fleming Dr. and O’Connor Lane area.
A witness claims they saw the moped driver swerving, before hitting a curb and falling off. In their release, police say the witness went to assist the driver, and believed that they were injured.
When officers arrived, they say they saw the driver sitting on his moped. After approaching and talking with the man, they could smell a strong odour of alcohol on his breath.
Police arrested the 55-year-old man from Guelph and transported him to the police station. Testing would reveal the man had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.
The man is being charged with impaired driving. His licence was suspended for 90 days, and his moped was impound for seven days.
The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to be responsible if they choose to consume alcohol and cannabis. Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home. Anyone who spots a suspected impaired driver is asked to immediately call 911
