Guelph man arrested for impaired driving near south-end

The Guelph Police Service have charged a Guelph man with impaired driving after being caught during a traffic stop on Wednesday afternoon.
At approximately 3:20 p.m., police received a report of a potentially impaired man who was attempting to purchase alcohol at a business in Guelph’s south-end. Officers located the driver attempting to leave a nearby business in his vehicle and pulled it over.
Upon stopping the suspect, officers noticed an odour of alcohol on the driver’s breath. After failing a roadside breathalyzer, the suspect was arrested and taken to a Guelph police station. At the station, it was found that the man had more than the legal limit of alcohol in his system.
The 43-year-old Guelph man has now been charged with impaired driving. Guelph police say his license will be suspended for 90 days and his vehicle will be impounded for 7 days. His court date is scheduled for September 8.
The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to be responsible if they choose to consume alcohol and cannabis. Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home. Anyone who spots a suspected impaired driver is asked to immediately call 911.
