Good Samaritan saves drowning driver in Guelph Lake: OPP

Wellington County OPP are recognizing a Good Samaritan who saved a driver from drowning in Guelph Lake over the Civic long weekend.
Police say a vehicle flipped onto its roof within Guelph Lake Sunday night and the driver became trapped inside as it quickly filled with water.
According to OPP, a courageous witness rushed to the driver’s aid by jumping into the lake, cutting their seatbelt, and freeing them from the submerged vehicle.
The witness then brought the distressed driver to shore, and police are describing their actions as heroic.
“Their courage, selflessness, and quick thinking saved a life and serves as an example of the strength and compassion found within our community,” OPP said in a social media post.
The single-vehicle crash happened shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday on Wellington Road 29 as the involved driver allegedly lost control of their vehicle before it flipped into the lake.
Following the rescue, no injuries were reported.
OPP have charged a 54-year-old from Guelph with making an unsafe move under the Highway Traffic Act.
