String of Kitchener summer distraction thefts continues with stolen necklace

Waterloo Regional Police have released photos of a vehicle connected to another in a string of “distraction thefts” in Kitchener throughout the past summer.
On Thursday, July 23, around noon, an unidentified male and female suspect were travelling in a black Volkswagen down Newbury Dr. The driver of the vehicle pulled a U-turn in front of a residence before exiting the vehicle and grabbing the attention of a passerby. The suspects asked the victim for directions to a nearby Portuguese grocery store, and the victim approached the vehicle to offer directions. The female suspect offered the victim a gold-coloured chain and ring and placed it around their neck during the interaction.
Moments later, the suspects fled the scene at a high rate of speed, last seen travelling down Westheight Dr. The victim was distracted during the interaction and later realized that their own gold necklace had been stolen in the exchange.
The WRPS General Investigations Unit is investigating the case and is asking for the public to help identify the owner and occupants of the vehicle pictured below.
