Severe thunderstorms with heavy rain, damaging wind continuing

After severe thunderstorms and heavy rain rolled through Waterloo Region Tuesday morning, more storms are expected throughout the day.
The early morning commute saw some drivers pulled over on the side of the road as heavy rain led to visibility issues.
In Kitchener, Meteorologist with Environment Canada’s Ontario Storm Prediction Centre, Rob Kuhn, reported 24 mm of rain during the morning storms alone in the Stanley Park neighbourhood.
Some residents even had their power flicker multiple times. Enova Power, however, did not report any major power outages Tuesday morning.
Just before 10:00 a.m. Environment Canada issued a yellow-level severe thunderstorm watch calling for more storms throughout the day.
“Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain,” reads the weather alert.
“The main hazards will be heavy rainfall and damaging wind gusts.”
Those wind gusts could reach up to 110 km/h, with rainfall totals exceeding 50 mm in some areas.
“The greatest likelihood for damaging wind gusts is expected to be over southwestern Ontario. A few instances of large hail are possible,” the weather agency notes.

The thunderstorm watch is in effect until Tuesday evening. Wednesday is expected to be mainly cloudy with a high of 20 C.
