Kitchener Market to briefly reopen after weekend fire

Some welcome news for local vendors and farmers.

The City of Kitchener said the Kitchener Market would reopen for an outdoor market Saturday.

Described as a “limited-time” outdoor experience, the brief reopening is chance to welcome the community back to support local.

The market building however will stay closed.

“While City of Kitchener staff continue recovery efforts inside the building, we are committed to finding ways to support vendors and maintain this important community tradition wherever possible,” read a release.

It comes after a weekend fire that officials said started in a vendor stall. Damage was estimated around $50,000, with no foul play suspected.

“Now more than ever, our vendors need the community’s support,” added the note from the city.

“We encourage residents to come out, shop local and show their support for the farmers, makers and entrepreneurs who help make the Kitchener Market such a special place.”
