The Kitchener Market building is still closed Tuesday, following a weekend fire at a vendor stall.
The fire, not considered suspicious, caused $50,000 in damage early Sunday morning.
In an update on social media Tuesday, the city said the building is still shut down for cleanup.
“Kitchener Market is closed until further notice following the July 12 fire,” reads the notice. “City staff are focused on cleanup (and) restoration planning and are working on a safe reopening plan.”
Despite the building being closed, the city said World Cup viewing parties hosted by the Downtown Kitchener BIA would continue as scheduled.
The World Cup semi-finals kick off Tuesday afternoon with France set to take on Spain at 3 p.m.
“However, there will be no access to the Market building for the next few games as cleaning continues,” said a social media post. “This means vendors and the bar will not be available, though portable washrooms will be on site.”
There are plenty of local viewing parties planned for the last few games of the World Cup, including in Cambridge at The Gaslight District.
