Hate-motivated incident leads to assault charges in Kitchener

Police have arrested a Kitchener man after a hate-motivated incident in that city that lead to a physical confrontation on Saturday night.

It was around 10:45 p.m. when police say that two victims were in the Bankside Drive and Benesfort Drive area of Kitchener when they were approached by a man that was not known to them.

It’s alleged that the male suspect became aggressive, yelling racial comments at the victims before engaging in a physical altercation.

Despite the scuffle, police said no physical injuries were reported.

Police made an arrest in connection with their investigation on Tuesday.

A 52-year-old man from Kitchener now faces several charges including:

  • Assault (two counts)
  • Mischief under $5,000
  • Mischief – interfere with lawful use or enjoyment
  • Dangerous operation of a vehicle
