The hard work is done and all that’s left to do is celebrate.
The Kitchener Rangers won their third Memorial Cup Championship on Sunday night, beating the Everett Silvertips, 6-2. The East Avenue Blue went undefeated at the tournament.
Now, the community gets to celebrate with the team. A championship parade will take over King Street in downtown Kitchener on Tuesday night.
Fans can line the route between Queen Street and Young Street for the parade set to begin at 6 p.m. at the corner of Queen and King.
The team will make its way down King, ending at Carl Zehr Square at Kitchener City Hall.
Once there, fans can enjoy live music by the Golden Keys.
Moose Winooski has donated free hot dogs and water for the first 2,000 fans, and Cober has donated free commemorative Memorial Cup posters.
Sun Life Financial is also a sponsor of the festivities.
The players will be making an appearance, and fans can expect a few remarks as well.
Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic, in a statement, called the Rangers’ victory a “proud and unforgettable moment for our city.”
“The Kitchener Rangers have shown incredible determination, teamwork and heart throughout their Memorial Cup run, and their success reflects that skill and commitment, as well as the passion and spirit of our entire community,” he said. ” I invite everyone to come out on June 2 to celebrate together-line the streets, cheer on our champions and join us for a community rally that recognizes not just a championship team, but the city that stands behind them.”
As with most events in the downtown, public transportation is recommended but the City of Kitchener has said that starting after 4 p.m., parking will be free at the City Hall parking garage, as well as the garages on Benton and Charles Street and at many of the surface lots in the downtown, surrounding city hall.
