Region launches overnight accessible taxi pilot project

The Region of Waterloo is looking to improve accessibility in the municipality with a new pilot project.

Two accessible taxis will now be on-call overnight, for rides between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.

It comes after a call from accessibility advisory committees highlighted a service gap in that stretch for those to access cab rides.

The concerns led to a taxi bylaw review.

“The pilot will help us better understand demand throughout 2026 and determine whether additional improvements or expanded service may be needed,” reads a notice from the region.

“This is one step toward building a more accessible transportation system in our community, and we’ll continue to monitor the program and make adjustments based on what we learn.”

Full details on the pilot can be read here.
