Armoured vehicle targeted and shot in Waterloo robbery

Officials are still on scene investigating after shots rang out early morning May 13 in front of a bank in Waterloo.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Police initially said a 25-year-old was sent to hospital, but later retracted the statement to say it was a 40-year-old who was seriously injured.

Waterloo regional police are looking for multiple suspects after an early morning shooting outside a Scotiabank in Waterloo.

Police tell 570 NewsRadio they received reports of multiple gunshots around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, in the Fischer Hallman Road and Erb Street West area of the city.

It’s alleged that two employees were approached by multiple suspects, and then one was shot in what police are describing as a targeted robbery.

Police initially said the victim was a 25-year-old man, but later clarified that a 40-year-old man was transported to hospital with a serious gunshot wound.

Police said the 25-year-old was the second victim, although he did not report any physical injuries. Both victims are employees of an armoured vehicle company.

Inspector Alison Sproule said in a media conference that police are looking for a minimum of four suspects, at least one with a firearm.

“Investigators are still combing through video evidence and trying to canvass for further video to determine what the suspects descriptions are,” she said.

Photos from the scene taken on Wednesday morning show a GardaWorld security vehicle parked outside of a nearby Scotiabank, surrounded by police tape.

In the early stages of the investigation, police are looking through the video evidence from the scene, but are not able to conclude what happened until footage is obtained.

“Investigators are looking into what transpired between the victim, GardaWorld employees and the suspects,” Sproule said.
