Wedding ceremonies, photography to be allowed at Castle Kilbride

Weddings and photography will once again return to Castle Kilbride in Baden for the first time in more than 20 years.

In 1994, the council of the day decided that weddings and wedding photography may pose a risk to the heritage building that was constructed in 1877.

Now, looking to make Castle Kilbride a resource that the community can use, staff are recommending that council once again allow weddings and photography at the beautiful, old building.

“Staff are of the opinion that permitting small wedding ceremonies will provide citizens with an additional opportunity to celebrate significant life events within a historic and culturally significant setting, while also supporting additional revenue generation for the facility,” reads the report from Wilmot staff at Monday’s Committee of the Whole meeting.

Wedding parties of up to 12 people will be permitted, with a $450 rental fee, a $1,000 damage deposit, and the applicable fees for the staff on site.

This rule change would only apply to wedding ceremonies. Wedding receptions would need to be held at an alternate location.
