Kitchener driver killed in crash that closed Hwy. 401 through Cambridge

A 10-hour closure on Highway 401 eastbound through Cambridge on Saturday has claimed the life of a Kitchener man.

Nine vehicles were involved in the crash near Townline Road around 12:30 p.m. that day.

The eastbound lanes of traffic were closed until just before 11:00 p.m.

On Monday, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) confirmed a Kitchener driver who was transported to a trauma centre was pronounced dead.

The driver was 44-years-old.

Details surrounding the crash itself are scarce, with OPP still looking for witnesses and dashcam footage of the crash for the investigation.

Photos and videos shared on social media show a mess of debris and vehicles scattered across all eastbound lanes of the highway. At least one car could be seen flipped completely over in the ditch, with a transport truck crashed into the centre median.

OPP have not released any details surrounding charges in connection with the crash or what led to the multi-vehicle collision.
