Assault, theft charges laid after weapons-related call in Wilmot: WRPS

A man is facing a list of charges, including assault and theft, following a weapons-related call in Wilmot Township.
Officers with Waterloo regional police said the call was reported at around 10:45 p.m. on March 9. They were told a man armed with a weapon was seen breaking into vehicles in the area of Snyder’s Road East and Foundry Street.
They said a witness, who was driving through the area, saw the man attempting to break into vehicles, and when they approached, the man advanced towards them, armed with a chisel.
The driver was safely able to drive away from the scene, with no injuries reported.
Once the call was reported, officers were able to find and locate the suspect nearby, arresting him on site.
Following the investigation, WRPS has now charged the 35-year-old man with a list of offences, including:
- Theft under $5,000
- Assault with a weapon
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Trespass near dwelling
- Breach of probation
The man was held in custody for a bail hearing, anyone with further information is asked to reach out to WRPS.
