Rangers on three-game win streak with victory over 67’s

The Kitchener Rangers are now on a three-game win streak, after securing a 2-0 victory over the Ottawa 67’s on Valentine’s Day.

Both teams were unable to score in the first two periods, setting up Sam O’Reilly to play the hero in the third with a goal less than 10 minutes left in regulation.

He added one more empty net goal with less than a minute to go to give Kitchener the 2-0 victory.

Goaltender Christian Kirsch recorded his second career OHL shutout, stopping all 24 shots he faced, earning him first star honours. Ottawa goaltender Ryder Fetterolf earned the second star, stopping 32/33 shots and Kitchener’s Gabriel Chiarot received the third star.

Head coach Jussi Ahokas said after the match that Kirsch played his best game of the season.

“It’s a great time, he’s getting there,” Ahokas said. “I thought the last couple of games he’s been really good. That’s what you need is really good goaltending.”

The Rangers wrap up their road trip with a Family Day matchup against the Peterborough Petes.

Puck drop is at 2:05 p.m. and you can catch all the action on 570 News Radio starting at 1:30 p.m. with the pregame show.
