Cambridge Council appoints Fire Chief five months after role was vacated

The City of Cambridge now has a new Fire Chief and Deputy Fire Chief.

In November, former Fire Chief Rob Martin was no longer in the role, with no explanation about how or why the move was made.

In a statement to 570 NewsRadio at the time, city officials said they were “unable to comment on confidential human resource matters and remain focused on ensuring continuity of service to our residents and supporting our employees through this transition.”

The city confirmed in a later email that Mayor Jan Liggett, who has strong mayor powers, “was not involved” in Martin leaving the post.

At a council meeting Tuesday night, Damond Jamieson was appointed the new chief.

Brad Churchill and Gina Cliffe were appointed as Deputy Fire Chiefs.

Jamieson has decades of experience with the local fire service in numerous roles, including as a firefighter, working in the public education office, and most recently as a Deputy Fire Chief.

Before coming to Cambridge, Jamieson was a police officer in Peel Region, and Fergus.

The new roles take effect immediately.
